    The military provides two options for the use of your Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH). The first option is living on post. Your second option is using your BAH to rent of buy a home. We provide you with military friendly information to help you maximize your BAH.

    • The Housing Services Office (760) 437-4450. Contact the housing office as soon as you know you are moving. You will be provided with the latest information on local housing as well as referral services and relocation assistance. They offer counseling and guidance before entering into a lease agreement and help resolve tenant-landlord disputes.

    • The Unaccompanied Housing (760) 939-4450 can assist with room assignment for single Sailors. 

    • China Lake NB on-base housing is privatized and operated by Lincoln Housing China Lake (888) 823-6779. They offer 2 neighborhoods of 3-4 bedroom single family homes based upon rank and family size. The community amenities include: swimming pool, several tot-lots, fitness center as well as a community center.

    Surrounding Areas
    Ridgecrest is a small city of 27,600 residents, but one of the largest- and only- towns around. The small town of Inyokern is west of Ridgecrest and also adjacent to the weapons station. There are about 1,100 people living here. Indian Wells is a slightly bigger town, population 5,000, just west of Inyokern. The next closest town is Cantil which is about 50 minutes away. Ridgecrest and the weapons station are remotely located in central, inland California, in between Death Valley National Park and Sequoia National Forest. Bakersfield is the closest major city and is about a 2 hour drive west of the station. Las Vegas is 4 hour drive to the east. The cities around this installation are Ridgecrest, Inyokern, and Indian Wells. 

    About the Installation
    Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake is the United States Navy's single largest landholding with 85 percent of the land used for the research, development, and testing of weapons and armaments. The total land ranges covers over one million acres and nearly all of the land is undeveloped. Above China Lake NAWS lies 19,000 square miles of restricted and controlled airspace which allow more testing and training for warfighters. NAWS China Lake, along with Edwards Air Force Base and Fort Irwin, control the airspace known as R-2508 Special Use Airspace Complex.
